Young Scientist Awards
SEVEN YOUNG SCIENTISTS will be given the unprecedented opportunity to address the world community of food science and technology at the 16th IUFoST World Congress of Food Science and Technology, August 5 – 9, 2012.
Nominations are invited by IUFoST national scientific members (Adhering Bodies). The young scientists, in their first position of a permanent nature and not more than five years beyond completion of their PhD, will submit abstracts and statements of recommendation from professors to their Adhering Body.Multiple nominations may be made to the Adhering Body, but only one nomination may be put forward from each Adhering Body to IUFoST.
The criteria for consideration
- Candidate who best exemplifies food science and technology nationall
- Candidate’s ability to represent himself/herself in an oral presentation in a plenary setting
- Candidate whose focus exemplifies the Congress theme: “Addressing Global Food Security and Wellness through Food Science and Technology” with international application
The process
- IUFoST Adhering Bodies will accept nominations and make the initial decision on the national nominee
- The Adhering Body nominee shall provide an abstract according to the approved criteria and through the world congress online submission system by 31 March, 2012.
- The Adhering Body shall submit to IUFoST a copy of the nominee abstract, full name and address details for the nominee, a brief outline of 200 words or less regarding the nominee’s suitability according to the criteria stated and the name and address of the Adhering Body.

The decision
Official representatives of the IUFoST regional groups will assist in the final selection.The final decision will be made on or before 15 April, 2012.
The seven young scientists will have all local expenses and registration costs paid to participate in the 16th IUFoST World Congress in Iguazu Falls, Brazil, 5 - 9 August, 2012.It is hoped that each Adhering Body submitting a nomination will proudly sponsor the young scientist by providing return airfare for the nominee.
The top two young scientists selected by the jury will address the congress following a plenary session for approximately 15-20 minutes.The other young scientists will have the opportunity to address the audience with his/her research for approximately the same period of time at the Young Scientists session during the congress. He/she will then join over 2000 other food scientists and technologists to experience this global event in the beautiful setting of Iguazu Falls, Brazil.
